

Yun Cheng
Senior Attorney
Attorney Cheng practices in a variety of areas with Lion’s Law. He represents corporate and individual clients in civil and commercial litigations. He assists clients with various legal issues involving breach of contract, landlord & tenant disputes in both residential and commercial leases, misrepresentation, breach of fiduciary duties, defamation, wrongful termination, and the Massachusetts Consumer Protection Act Chapter 93A. His skill set and experience in legal research, motion drafting, deposition, and oral argument enables him to successfully defend his clients’ rights through both litigation and settlement.
Attorney Cheng’s practice areas also include intellectual property (IP) law, corporate law, and employment law. He has represented clients in front of the USPTO on different intellectual property matters, including trademark registration, trademark consultations, trademark prosecutions, copyright infringement actions, and copyright licensing.
He drafts, reviews and negotiates the terms of the commercial leases. He is also experienced in assisting clients to incorporate their businesses and draft corporate documents. In addition, he addressed employer’s needs in employment offer, employment agreement, handbook, assignment of intellectual property, trade secrets, non-solicitation, non-compete, and wage and hour issue.
Attorney Cheng has advised clients on organizing multiple 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations. His clients are in industries in technology, biopharma and life science, sports, education, exports and imports, athletic clubs, food services, childcare services and real estate brokerage.
Prior to joining Lion's Law, Attorney Cheng practiced law at The Kasen Law Firm in New York City, Boston Municipal Court, and King & Capital Law firm in Beijing, China. He advocates for client rigorously by infusing his attention to details and strong analytical skills with a highly individualized approach and a goal to win.

Litigation

Representing a leading China-based kitchen cabinet manufacturer, in a commercial litigation against a distributor and affiliated entities involving claims exceeding $8 million.

Representing a client unit owner in a dispute involving a luxury residential property valued at over $5 million, a condominium trust, and property management company. Led extensive pre-litigation negotiations, on-site inspections, investigations, and sampling; drafted and filed complaints in both state and federal court; and successfully defeated motions to dismiss.

Served as a core member of the trial team in a highly contested jury trial, with responsibilities including drafting and arguing pre-trial, mid-trial, and post-trial motion; supporting trial strategy; and preparing witness and evidentiary presentations. Successfully reduced damages exposure and mitigated the client’s overall financial risk.

Represented clients in cryptocurrency-related disputes involving frozen digital assets, including engagement and coordination with the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office, advising on regulatory exposure, asset tracing, and recovery strategy in complex and evolving matters.

Represented a victim of a Ponzi-scheme-related investment dispute arising from the sale of equity interests, where the buyer repeatedly defaulted on payment obligations despite executing multiple written assurances, leaving over $1.5 million unpaid. Pursued civil litigation that forced the defendant to file for bankruptcy and continues to represent the client in bankruptcy proceedings in coordination with bankruptcy counsel.

Represented a China-based business client defrauded through a business email compromise scheme involving losses exceeding $800,000. Traced funds initially routed through HSBC and later transferred to the United States; issued attorney correspondence to Citizens Bank; and applied recovery pressure that prompted escalation and engagement with the FBI, resulting in recovery of the majority of the stolen funds.

Successfully obtained summary judgment for a travel agency client in litigation arising from the purchase of a commercial bus from a bank following loan default.

Represented a former senior executive of a biotechnology and medical company in defending against multi-claim litigation alleging trade secret misappropriation and related misconduct, involving hundreds of millions of dollars in underlying pharmaceutical compound transactions and multi-million-dollar damage claims.

Represented a client in a highly contentious residential real estate dispute where the seller’s relatives unlawfully remained in possession of a seven-figure property after closing. Pursued a dual-track strategy involving civil litigation and parallel eviction proceedings in separate courts, ultimately achieving a favorable mediated settlement, including recovery of attorneys’ fees.

Represented a landlord in eviction proceedings and successfully prevailed at trial on claims for monetary damages.

Represented an international biotechnology company in litigation asserting breach of contract and related claims against a former employee and his newly founded business for the unauthorized taking and use of a 3D panoramic imaging scanner, resulting in a favorable settlement.

Represented individual guarantors (also restaurant owners) in a landlord-tenant dispute arising from unpaid rent during the COVID-19 pandemic, where the restaurant vacated voluntarily and was orally released, but no written settlement was executed, resulting in a negotiated resolution.

Represented clients in a range of business and personal disputes, including restaurant shareholder conflicts and parent–school disputes, where strategic use of attorney demand letters compelled repayment or prompt resolution without prolonged litigation.
Intellectual Property

Successfully prepared and filed trademark applications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office for a wide range of clients, including the U.S. subsidiary of one of China’s largest publicly traded pharmaceutical companies, movie festival organizations, and education-focused startups.

Represented a business client in responding to a cease-and-desist letter alleging trademark infringement, preparing a substantive opposition that resulted in the withdrawal of the demand.

Represented an art school business in resolving a copyright infringement and trade secret misappropriation dispute with an independent contractor through settlement.
Employment

Acted as outside general counsel for multiple companies, providing ongoing employment law advice and consultation, including compliance review of offer letters and employee handbooks, with particular focus on paid leave policies, sick leave requirements, and noncompete restrictions.

Assisted a biotechnology company in issuing a cease-and-desist letter to a former employee who refused to return valuable company equipment following termination, resulting in the immediate return of the equipment.
Nonprofit and Charity

Successfully prepared and obtained 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status from the Internal Revenue Service and relevant state authorities for multiple nonprofit organizations, including entities focused on Omega-3 fatty acid research and global health promotion, as well as organizations dedicated to cultural exchange initiatives.
